The 10 Countries With the Most Organic Farmland |
|
|
Organic farming brings to mind small European plots. The numbers point somewhere else. The 2026 edition of the FiBL and IFOAM global survey counts 98.9 million organic hectares worldwide. Australia holds 53.0 million of them. Second-placed India has 4.0 million. Almost all of Australia’s share is open grazing land. |

Australia has 53.0 million hectares of certified organic farmland. That is 13 times India, in second place, and 28 times Germany. On FiBL’s count it is 54% of all the organic farmland on Earth. Ten years earlier the figure was 22.1 million hectares. The ten countries on this chart hold 82% of the world’s organic land between them. The land is not what most people picture. FiBL estimates 99% of it is extensive grazing. Just 1,635 producers work it, so the average Australian organic holding runs past 30,000 hectares. In India, 2.4 million organic farmers share 4.0 million hectares. Their average is 1.7. Argentina, in third, looks like Australia: SENASA counts 3.7 million of its 3.9 million organic hectares as livestock land. Worldwide, grassland and grazing make up 69.6 million of the 98.9 million organic hectares. The headline number is also softer than it looks. Australia’s figure dates from 2022. This year Australian Organic rebuilt its count from federal records and got 44.4 million hectares as of June 2026, a 16% cut. Australia still holds about half the world’s organic land. Nobody else is close. |

Europe farms organic by share, not by size. Liechtenstein has 43.5% of its farmland under organic management. Austria: 27.2%. Twenty-two countries are at 10% or more, most of them in Europe. The European Union: 11.1%. The world: 2.1%. The EU’s 18.1 million organic hectares add up to about a third of Australia’s total. Money follows shoppers, not hectares. Organic retail sales reached €145 billion in 2024. Americans spent €60.4 billion of it, about 42%, in a country with 3% of the world’s organic land. Australia’s last reported figure is €1.3 billion. That is under 1% of sales from about half the land. Per person, Americans spend €176 a year on organic. Australians: €52. The United States jumped 56% in a year, to 3.2 million hectares. FiBL says most of North America’s gain reflects better data coverage, not new farms. China added 169,000 hectares, up 5%. India went the other way, down 503,000 hectares, or 11%. Uruguay and Italy are the only countries in the top ten for both size and share. |

Most people missed it. But if you go back and listen carefully, there's a pattern
Most people missed it. But if you go back and listen carefully, there's a pattern.
Trump didn't just mention gold once. He's dropped a series of sly hints that, when you line them up, paint a very clear picture.
He promised a "new American Golden Age." Most people took that as a slogan. What if it wasn't?
He warned that to fix the economy "there would be some pain." Most people assumed he meant tariffs. What if he meant something bigger?
His Treasury Secretary went on national television and said the administration plans to "monetize the assets on the balance sheet." The government's single biggest asset? 261 million ounces of gold valued at $42 an ounce on the books. Worth over $1.2 trillion at market prices.
There's legislation in his own party right now to revalue that gold. A Federal Reserve economist published a paper on how to do it. And central banks around the world are hoarding gold like they already know the ending.
One hint is a comment. Two is a coincidence. This many is a plan.
No president since Nixon has talked about gold this openly. And the last time a president acted on gold, FDR in 1934, it created one of the biggest wealth events of the century. Most Americans had no idea until it was too late.
The "pain" he warned about? It's coming for people who aren't positioned. The "Golden Age"? It's coming for people who are.
A free report called "The Great Gold Reset" connects every hint, every statement, every piece of legislation into one clear picture. And shows you how to get on the right side of it in about 15 minutes. No taxes. No penalties.

FiBL and IFOAM publish the 2027 edition in February, around the BIOFACH organic fair in Nuremberg (February 16–19). The question is which Australian number it uses. If it adopts the revised 44.4 million hectares, the world total drops by about 8.6 million hectares on paper alone, to roughly 90 million. Australian Organic calls its new figure a baseline to measure future growth against. Two more things to track: whether the US gain holds once its data settles, and whether India’s slide continues. We’ll be watching. |
